AlphaGraphics in the Cultural District Expands and Innovates

15-Year Old Firm Occupies Unique Market Niche, Cool Office Space

AlphaGraphics in the Cultural District is celebrating its recent expansion and shining a spotlight on its remarkable growth from print provider to innovative, full-service marketing communications firm with 25 employees and sales close to $5 million.

AlphaGraphics has offered value-added services since its founding 15 years ago. Owners Clare and Bill Meehan launched the company with strong graphic design capabilities, believing that offering services beyond just printing would capture business and position the franchise for growth.

Clare Meehan explains, “We never really considered ourselves just a printer, and with a focus on meeting changing customer needs, we’ve constantly grown to become a small agency with an internal facility to produce the work. We’re a one-stop-shop. We have carved out a unique niche in the marketplace.”

In summer 2015 AlphaGraphics expanded to new, second-floor office space at their location at 814 Penn Avenue, where they now occupy three floors. Moss Architects of Pittsburgh designed the beautiful spaces.

The second floor was completely gutted and redesigned to accommodate the firm’s burgeoning sales, marketing, graphic design, pre-press, and accounting staff. A cool blend of old and new, it features restored blonde hardwood floors; exposed brick walls and shiny metal ductwork ceilings; a large, translucent, circular meeting pod; small, semi-circular huddle rooms, and plenty of natural light from the nearly floor-to-ceiling front windows. A neutral palette of whites, grays, and tans is punctuated by pops of stop sign red that is AlphaGraphics’ signature brand color.

Enhancing the walls, windows, and floors throughout the offices are a host of unique signs and graphics custom designed and produced in-house.

“The space is truly a reflection of who we are. It’s open and free flowing, modern and efficient. It’s conducive to creativity and idea sharing. That’s really what we were going for,” says Meehan.
