When it comes to running in Pittsburgh, P3R is the go-to non-profit organization for dynamic training programs and distinctive city races. They’re “Keeping Pittsburgh Running” by promoting the love of long-distance running and community with fitness activities and high-quality events for all.
P3R asked us to create t-shirts for the Pittsburgh Marathon that would be sold online and at the pre-race expo. One shirt was to focus on the 14 neighborhoods racers wind through for 26.2 miles. Another would use the tagline “Blood, Sweet & Cheers.” Both needed eye-catching graphics that would appeal to runners, supporters and fans of all ages.
The chance to create a slogan t-shirt is a designer’s dream so we were on this job like a runner on an endorphin high. We considered that race shirts are keepsakes for most runners and volunteers, so we wanted to make something that captured the spirit of the event. Our creative team ran with it and came up with several graphically interesting typographic options. Rather than the two designs the client had initially requested, they selected four. They were thrilled...and so were we when the shirts ended up winning the Design Excellence award at the AIGA’s PGH365 Art Exhibition.
